We collect personal information about you – including your identity and contact details, government-issued identification information, photographs of you and your ID, membership details, and, where required, additional information to meet our legal or regulatory obligations – in connection with your application, your account, and your activities as an account holder.
This information is used to verify your identity, conduct customer due diligence and fraud prevention activities, comply with our legal or regulatory obligations (including under the Identity Verification Services Act 2023 (Cth), the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006 (Cth) and applicable casino control and responsible gambling laws), and to operate your account and our business. We may collect your personal information directly from you or from third parties (including our service providers), other casino operators, law enforcement agencies and regulatory authorities.
If your application for an account is accepted, you may receive information from The Star relating to your account through the channels you have selected. If you provide your express consent to receive marketing, promotional or advertising material, you may also receive newsletters and marketing materials with information about promotions, events and special offers relevant to you through the channels you have selected, which you may opt out of at any time.
To the extent that consent is required, by joining you consent to us using your account photograph and images of you from any other source (collected before or after you joined), and faceprints made from those images, in our facial recognition system to identify, exclude or remove from our premises individuals to whom we may lawfully deny access, to promote safer gambling at our casinos (including by enforcing our time limits for safer gambling), to enforce our customer probity and gaming integrity measures, or for other purposes relating to gaming, safety and security and preventing illegal or undesirable activities. We may disclose facial images and photos to, or receive them from, our related companies, service providers, other casino operators, law enforcement agencies or regulatory authorities for these and directly related purposes.
If you do not provide us with your personal information, we may not be able to open or maintain your account, or may need to apply enhanced monitoring or other restrictions to your account in order to meet our legal or regulatory obligations.
We may disclose your personal information to others, including our related companies, our service providers, other casino operators, credit rating and other reporting agencies, law enforcement agencies, regulatory authorities and social media platforms. In limited circumstances, this may include overseas recipients, such as service providers who support our systems or provide backup services, located in India and Singapore.
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal information and how you may access, correct or complain about the handling of personal information. For further information about facial recognition, please see our Facial Recognition Collection Statement.
On the following pages you will be asked to verify your identity. As part of this verification, we will collect, use, disclose and store your personal information to verify your identity document(s) using the Attorney-General's Department's Document Verification Service (DVS). Further information on the operation of DVS can be found here. The Attorney General Departments Privacy Statement can be found here. Please have your identity documents ready before you begin, such as your driver's licence and passport.
For the purposes of identity verification and fraud prevention, you consent to the collection of your personal information and disclosure of that information to third parties. The personal information you provide will be subject to an information match request against information held by the relevant "Official Record Holder" (which will be the relevant Government authority or authorised body that lawfully creates, maintains, and controls the primary identity record relied upon for verification). Where required, you authorise GB Group PLC and its group companies including GBG (Australia) Pty Ltd (jointly referred to as 'GBG') as the intermediary to access certain information held about you for that purpose. All information provided to GBG will be managed in accordance with GBG's privacy policy. Please also refer to The Star's Privacy Notice and The Star Privacy Policy for more information about how we collect, use or disclose your personal information.
